Darkness in the World by A.S. Santos: A Book Report

Summary:

Samantha is a girl who can read minds. The first two books tackled and explored her senses that she discovered she can do much more than just read minds. She began to hear voices of angels and demons. She started seeing images from a serial killer’s mind.  She even began dreaming of brutal deaths that happen in real time. The more she used her abilities, the more she realized that she has more things that she is capable of doing.

But unfortunately, the more she used her abilities, the more she had gotten her life in danger. She had uncovered the world of angels and demons and have seen them walk among people in this earth. She has seen the invisible battle everyone has been fighting all along. But the problem was, if she can see them, they can see her. The more she is exposed to them, the more they are exposed to her.

Darkness in The World is the book three of the SPRG trilogy. And finally, Sam has come to face the worst enemy she could possibly imagine. This enemy has not only targeted her and the people she loved, but has also targeted every single soul alive. Sam has to find out how to stop the chaos that has suddenly enveloped the world...before it’s too late.

Review:

The book wastes no time in describing too much, it contains the right details. It’s straight to the point and magnifies the emotion of the main character so much, I could actually feel the sun sizzling at my skin. Every emotion, every anxious word, every scared whisper from Sam frightens me much because I feel what she feels.

The emotions are very well written, the flashbacks are well relayed, and the character development is beyond perfect. I could actually see everyone’s weaknesses, everyone’s struggles, everyone’s insecurities... but I could also see how they try. The realistically imperfect decisions, the body weaknesses and incapacities, the fears... everything was realistic and I felt as if I was living in their world.

The pacing is just right and the intensity hit me in the right places and at the right times. The realizations, the discoveries, the answers, and the plot twists were all beautifully arranged in a way that when you finally step back, look at how far the character’s have gone and how big the story stretched into... you’ll realize that everything was a puzzle piece and you just managed to form a masterpiece.

Sam’s awkwardness and personality is relatable and easy to understand. It’s fascinating that her actions can be annoying at times but it depicts who she is and how her character is growing.

I most definitely love the final battle of the book. It was jam-packed with descriptions and revelations that could just melt every fan’s heart. It’s overwhelmingly intense but at the same time I felt as if I needed more of it. The emotions are different and I had to actually stop reading to breathe for a moment so I can actually process what I was feeling.

Certain words and thoughts hit me right in the core and I’ve come to realize things about myself that I haven’t discovered before.

The climax and the resolve was perfect and I couldn’t imagine a better way to end it.

Conclusion:

If you want a roller-coaster ride of emotions, read the SPRG trilogy and you will not be disappointed (just make sure t have a cup of warm tea and a roll of tissue paper with you at all times.)

The books’ message will sound different to different people, but I know it will make you see something in yourself that you haven’t seen before. It will make you ask questions you didn’t know were there. It’ll make you hungry for answers and hungry for more.

Read it.
